There are many different hobbies that people do outside for sport. Some people like to watch birds, and others like to go hunting. Fishing might be one of the most popular outdoor hobbies. It is often very therapeutic because you can chill out and relax for a long time when you go fishing. However, some people are nervous about this sport.
You have to be the type of person who can poke wildlife in the face in order to enjoy fishing. Most of the day will be calm and nothing will happen. But when you catch a fish, you will need to reel it in. Then, you will need to hold it and clean it. You might not enjoy this. Instead of fishing, you could just be the captain of the boat.
Brian is going fishing this weekend, but he is nervous. Listen as he talks about this sport with Andy in today’s English lesson.

Brian: Andy, have you ever been fishing? I’m supposed to go this weekend, and I only went one other time. It kind of makes me nervous.
Andy_H: Well, I’ll tell you… fishing for me isn’t really a hobby. I think fishing is really boring. You sit in a boat, and you wait for some fish to come along and drag it in just for sport. To be honest, I’m the kind of person that doesn’t like to poke wildlife in the face, so I really don’t understand what all the hubbub is about. I understand some people find it therapeutic, they chill out when they do it, but…
Brian: That’s what I was going to say. I like everything that goes with fishing except for the actual fishing. I love being on the water, I love being in boats, spending time with my friends and relaxing. But the whole act of actually catching a fish… the only time when I caught one, I cried the whole time we reeled it in because I killed a fish. Maybe, I’ll just be the captain of the boat this weekend and let them do the fishing.
Andy_H: Aye, aye!

Brian is going to go fishing this weekend, but he’s nervous because he’s only gone fishing once. In the past, he caught one fish, but he felt really bad about it. He even cried when he reeled it in. He asks Andy about fishing, and Andy has a similar opinion.
Andy and Brian both think that being in a boat on the water is fun. They like chilling out and relaxing with friends. But they don’t understand all the hubbub about fishing. They don’t like to poke wildlife in the face. Brian says that he will be the captain of the boat this weekend and not fish. Andy thinks this is a good idea and says, “Aye, aye!”
Did you ever catch a fish? What do you like to do outside for sport?
