Are you the type of person who loves to be outside? If so, you might even love doing yard work. Perhaps, pulling weeds and mowing the grass makes you feel happy. Maybe, changing a yard that is out of control into a neatly manicured lawn gives you a feeling of success. If this is true, you probably have a garage with a lawn mower in it.
On the other hand, you might hate doing yard work. It is often hot and difficult work. If you are this type of person, you might forgo mowing the grass and pass on fertilizing your plants. In fact, you might even like having dandelions in your yard. People have many different ideas of what a yard should be like.
Romeo and Dominique had a plan to have date night tonight, but Romeo wants to mow the lawn instead. Find out what Dominique thinks in today’s English lesson.

Romeo: Sorry, I’m not going to be able to do date night tonight.
Dominique: Why?
Romeo: I’ve got to mow my grass. It’s out of control.
Dominique: I thought we had a service to do that.
Romeo: Nope! Not since you quit your last job.
Dominique: Oh! OK, well, can’t we do it later?
Romeo: Have you seen the dandelions?
Dominique: OK…
Romeo: That’s a good sign right there that the weeds are taking over.
Dominique: I thought we had fertilizer for that.
Romeo: Yeah, it doesn’t work like that.
Dominique: All right, well, as long as we keep our lawn manicured, I guess we can forgo date night.
Romeo: OK. Would you like to help? You can water.
Dominique: Do we even have a lawn mower? I mean…
Romeo: That’s right. You never go into the garage.
Dominique: Yeah… this is going to be a chore. I think I’m going to pass.
Romeo: You’re going to pass?! I was just thinking… If we don’t do date night, we can make mowing the grass a date night.
Dominique: Yeah, let’s rethink that one.
Romeo: Yeah, OK, sure… sure… Next week!

Romeo and Dominique had planned to go out for a special date night. However, Romeo thinks the yard is out of control. He doesn’t want to go out anymore. Instead, he wants to cut the grass. Dominique still wants to go out. She thought that they had a lawn service to help them mow the grass, but Romeo tells her that they have to do it now.
Dominique agrees to forgo date night as long as Romeo can make the yard look great. But Romeo wants her to work, too! Dominique is not excited about this. She thinks it will be too much work, so she decides to pass. Romeo wanted yard work to become the new date night, but Dominique tells him that is a bad idea.
Do you like to mow the lawn? Would you do yard work instead of having a date night?
