Were you born in the 1980s or 1990s? If so, you probably remember the Friends TV show, CD players, and hip-hop music. Perhaps, you also remember Lisa Frank. The company’s neon designs were synonymous with the 1980s and 1990s for millions of people. Now, as we approach the year 2020, Lisa Frank is making a comeback. Is the world ready for a Lisa Frank revival?

Lisa Frank is an American businesswoman who started her own company in 1979. The company sold school supplies like binders, pencils, stickers, and lunch boxes. Schoolchildren loved the neon colors and cutesy animals of Lisa Frank. Now, those children are adults, but many of them still enjoy the puppies, dolphins, and rainbows from the era of their youth. Lisa Frank’s company is ready to make money again.

Marni still loves anything with a neon unicorn. But can she convince Romeo that the Lisa Frank comeback is a good thing? Listen to this English lesson to find out.

Marni:  Romeo, I have to tell you… I just got this awesome new Lisa Frank t-shirt. I am so excited because it just reminds me of my childhood.

Romeo:  OMG.

Marni:  Are you not a fan of the neon unicorn?

Romeo:  Take it back.

Marni:  No, I love it! I think it’s just so synonymous with my youth. All of my binders that I had. Rainbows and happy bears or any kind of cutesy animal.

Romeo:  Synonymous with your youth? Tie dye is synonymous with my youth. I mean, I’m not going to go wear tie dye because that’s the era that I grew up in. Leave it be in the past. It’s dead. For a reason, right?

Marni:  No, I think it’s making a comeback, and I think it’s great.

Romeo:  So, you’re all about revival and restoration?

Marni:  I am all about revival. I mean, if you’re passionate about it, bring it back.

Romeo:  Well, you do what you do.

Marni:  I will, and I will love it.

Romeo is an adult. He doesn’t want to dress like a teenager. He doesn’t want to buy things that are synonymous with his childhood. After learning about Marni’s love for all things cutesy, he only has one thought… OMG. Romeo doesn’t understand why Marni wants to buy things from an earlier era.

Marni has good memories of the Lisa Frank products she had as a kid. Binders with neon rainbows, t-shirts with a happy unicorn? Bring it back, bring it back! It doesn’t matter what Romeo thinks. Marni is happy to see an old company make new products. She thinks that if you truly love something, it will always have a place in the world.

What other companies have had a revival? What products are synonymous with your youth?
