Sometimes, life is wonderful. Everyone and everything is great. Other times, life can make you upset. For example, you studied really hard for a test and you still failed it. Maybe, you were driving slowly but the police officer gave you a speeding ticket anyway. Perhaps, you were happily asleep when your roommates decided to have a loud party in the living room. Or what if you gave your friend a bunch of money and now she won’t pay you back.
When these kinds of things like happen, it’s easy to get bent out of shape. When you’re bent out of shape, you’re angry or you’re upset. It could take awhile for you to start feeling calmer. On the other hand, you might be a very patient person. You might rarely feel bent out of shape, even if you get an unfair speeding ticket or fail a test. No matter what your problems are right now in life, hopefully you can manage them without getting too bent out of shape.

Kelsey: I can’t believe Sheila’s been gone for so long.
Dominique: I know! It’s so awesome for her but poor Andy.
Kelsey: Speaking of which… where is he?
Dominique: Wow! He’s asleep.
Kelsey: I guess the excitement of seeing Sheila is too much for him.
Dominique: I guess so. Should we wake him?
Kelsey: Well, Sheila isn’t going to be here for a bit. Maybe, we should let him sleep for awhile.
Dominique: Is this going to be awkward?
Kelsey: What do you mean?
Dominique: Well, remember the last time Andy and Sheila were together. Sheila was all bent out of shape when she saw Jordin kiss Andy.
Kelsey: Yeah, but Andy and Sheila have been talking a bunch on the phone, so I think it’ll be fine.
Dominique: Jordin is coming, right?
Kelsey: Yeah, I think so. When I saw her yesterday, she said she’d be here. Oh! Hey, Jordin! Dominique was just asking about you. You’re still coming over, right?
Jordin: Hey, Kelsey. Well, actually, that’s why I’m calling. I really want to be there, but I don’t want to make things awkward for Andy… or for Sheila… or for me.
Kelsey: I’m sure it will be fine. She’s worried about coming.
Jordin: I’m really bent out of shape about this, Kelsey.
Kelsey: She says she’s bent out of shape about it.
Dominique: Tell her it’s going to be fine.
Kelsey: Jordin, I really do think it will be OK. Andy and Sheila have been talking a bunch, and Sheila’s had some time to think about things.
Jordin: I don’t know. I’m really upset about this. Is Andy nearby?
Kelsey: Yeah. He’s in the living room.
Jordin: Could you hand him the phone? Wait, actually… can you just ask him a question for me?
Kelsey: She wants to ask Andy a question.
Dominique: I’ll wake him.
Kelsey: OK, Jordin, we’ll ask for you. Dominique’s going to wake him up.
Dominique: Good morning, Andy!
Andy_H: Ahhhh!
Jordin: He’s asleep? Wait, wait, wait… don’t wake him up!
Kelsey: I think it’s too late…

Andy, Kelsey, and Dominique have been preparing something for Sheila. She’ll be home from vacation soon, and they’re going to surprise her with a party. Dominique just hopes that no one will be upset during the party. After all, Sheila saw Jordin kiss Andy. Talk about an awkward moment!
Then, Jordin calls. She still feels awkward about what happened. Dominique and Kelsey tell her to not feel bent of out shape. Everything will be OK. Jordin asks if she can talk to Andy, but she doesn’t realize he is asleep. Oops, too late! Dominique has already gone to the living room to wake him up.
What do you do when you feel bent out of shape? Have you ever been to an awkward party?
