Sometimes what’s hip and cool is not necessarily what’s new and modern. This week, as I was racking my brain for a new topic for English, baby!, nothing new came to mind. Everytime I asked myself “what kind of movie lesson can I create this week?”, only one face kept coming to my mind: Marilyn. Marilyn Monroe is my all-time favorite actress hands down. Read on to find out a more about her exciting life and career…...
Dialog

2. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.
It is hard to fathom that this month, Marilyn Monroe would be turning 78 years old. If you’re like me, Marilyn will always be that cute broad singing “Happy Birthday” to President Kennedy, back in the early 60s or the bubbly upstairs neighbor in the seven year itch.
But she was much more than what most people think of her. In her life, Marilyn accomplished so much, including 30 movies under her belt and worldwide fame, considering the obstacles she had to overcome.
She was born to a single-mom, who was checked into a mental institution for mental problems while Marilyn was a young teen.
She married young, at the age of 16, to avoid being put into a foster home, but later divorced so that she could follow her passion, acting.
And that she did! She’s got 30 amazing films to prove it.
She married twice more, first to Joe DiMaggio and later to Arthur Miller. Sadly, she died at the young age of 36.
We are so lucky to have this cultural icon as a representative of American movies and culture.

Have you ever seen a movie featuring Marilyn Monroe? If yes, what did you like or not like about the movie? Do you think that she was a great actress, or just really cute? If you haven’t seen one of her films, here’s a homework assignment for you: go rent one (in English of course!) and see if she’s your kind of actress…
See you at the movies!
