What could be more free that riding the waves out in the ocean? In this documentary about the history of riding the biggest swells, surfers play themselves and talk about their experiences. That is so neat! Can you imagine if someone made a documentary about what you do every day, with you as the star? That would be –as the surfers say – RADICAL!

Steph: So, I’m thinking about going to see this movie called Riding Giants.
Derek: Really? What’s it about?
Steph: Well, you’d think from the title that it were some kind of Disney movie or something. But it’s not. It’s about surfing.
Derek: Surfing. How different is it from the other surfing movies?
Steph: Well, I don’t know yet. But they’re all different in their own subtle ways. This is about riding the biggest waves, the giants.
Derek: The giants. The surfer’s holy grail.
Steph: That’s right. They’re all after the biggest wave. And they wanna ride it and get the longest ride.
Derek: Well, hopefully by the end of the movie, they actually get to do that.
Steph: I hope so, too. And hopefully it’s more than just a, ya know, music video, like a lot of surf movies are.
Derek: Right. Maybe a little bit of a good script or something would help.
Steph: A good plot, yeah, is always nice.
Derek: Sounds good. Well, tell me how it is.
Steph: I will.

Growing up near the ocean, going to the beach was a big part of my life. As teens, we would go to the beach every day after school. We even played hooky a few times and went during school. Those were the days! Nowadays, I like to watch a surf movie here and there to get my fix of ocean life. Are you into surfing, or any other ocean sports?
