Since Halloween is coming up, I started to think about music that scares me. I couldn’t come up with anything. But then I remembered Sigur Ros. Their music doesn’t exactly scare me, but it’s so strange that it seems very appropriate to play on a day like Halloween.
Sigur Ros is a band from Iceland. I can’t understand any of the words to their songs, but the sounds are still deeply haunting and emotional. Their last album, Ageatis Byrjun, is one of the most passionate albums I’ve ever heard. In fact, I think it’s one of the best albums ever recorded.
Read on to learn more about Sigur Ros.
Dialog

Sigur Ros are the most interesting musicians from Iceland since Bjork. Their music is impossible to define. Listening to it is a bizarre experience. The first time I heard their album, I listened to the whole thing in a state of shock. The music is so beautiful, yet so much different from anything I’d ever heard before, that I couldn’t do anything but listen.
My favorite song on Ageatis Byrjun is called “Staralfur.” It’s absolutely gorgeous. You can actually listen to it at RollingStone.com if you’d like:

Discussion
If you hadn’t heard Sigur Ros before, I hope you took the time to listen to “Staralfur.” It’s impossible to describe the music. You have to listen to it to understand it.
I’ve been trying to think of other bands that are similar to Sigur Ros, but I’m struggling. The only thing I’ve come up with is Radiohead[/def], especially on their Kid A album. If you’re into music that will change the way you think about music, you should definitely check out Sigur Ros.
Rock on!
