What’s the secret to looking fly? Some people think expensive, brand name clothes make you look good. Others think it’s all about attitude, how you carry yourself, that gives you style. Maybe it’s a bit of both.

John is one debonair cat. Listen to he and I talk about fly fashion.

Dave

John: The fashion sure is boring here in Portland compared to other cities around the world.

Dave: Well, it really is. And especially for men. I have a really hard time finding decent clothes. I just don’t know where you can get some styling men’s clothing in Portland.

John: You’ve been saying that since you moved here. I know there are some stores where you can find stuff, but still, as a whole, people don’t really like to wear fashionable stuff. Portland kind of has it’s own fashion of fleeces…

Dave: Right.

John: ...and cargo pants...

Dave: Yeah, and that’s cool.

John: ...casual outdoor wear.

Dave: Yeah, and that’s just the community and that’s fine. I like something a little bit more spunky, and it’s hard to find around here.

John: Like in Asia, or in Tokyo, with kind of crazy fashion, with long jeans rolled up at the bottom.

Dave: Right. That was really popular in Thailand. They’d wear these jeans that are at least a foot too long, and they’d pull the pant legs up.

John: Yeah. So, do you wear stuff like that?

Dave: Well, I don’t do the long jeans, but I did like some of the Japanese fashion.

John: Like what?

Dave: I don’t know, just the shirts. They had really funky button-down shirts.

John: You know, I could never buy shirts there because they were so small.

Dave: Yeah.

John: But there was some cool stuff, for sure.

Gwen Stefani had a hit song last year called Harajuku Girls. The song talks about the crazy and cool fashion that young people have in the Harajuku area of Tokyo. Though Harajuku fashion looks cool, it’s a bit over-the-top.
