When you’ve got a beef with someone, you’ve got a big problem or conflict with him/her. Recently, billionaire Donald Trump had a beef with Martha Stewart because her version of the tv show The Apprentice was not as popular as Trump’s version. There have been rumors that Madonna had a beef with Gwen Stefani because Gwen is copying Madonna’s image: a pretty blonde who is married to a British man.

In the quote above, Busta Rhymes is saying that a lot of hip hop music is meant to create problems or conflicts. One popular example is the beef between east coast and west coast rappers a few years ago. The beef was primarily between rap artists 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G.
