1. Quote - Listen to the quote and guess what the slang means.

“I’ve never tried to pitch my songs to people.”
Trent Reznor, talking about the time when Johnny Cash
asked if he could cover one of Reznor’s songs

1. Definition - Study the definition.

try to make someone want to buy, do, or accept something

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

The standard meaning of pitch is to toss something lightly, like a ball. In this meaning, when you pitch an idea, it is like tossing it.
Usually, when you have an idea you have to pitch it to someone and hope that they like the idea.
Trent Reznor said he had never _pitch_ed his song. It was someone else’s idea to cover, or re-make, it.

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

“You have such great ideas! You should pitch them to someone who can help you out.”

“You have such great ideas! You should pitch them to someone who can help you out.”

“My dad keeps _pitch_ing me this idea about buying land together in Hawaii. I don’t think it’s a good idea though.”

“I absolutely love his music! Let’s go pitch it to a few labels and see if we can get him a deal.”
