Migs: Dude, what’s wrong with your, uh, dog. Why did he have to go to the vet?
Chris: He’s been eating rocks.
Migs: Really, he eats rocks? My dog used to do that, too!
Chris: Yeah, I don’t know why he does it. I think it’s because he’s a retriever and he likes to have things in his mouth.
Migs: So you throw the rocks, and then he goes and fetches them?
Chris: No, no, I just let him out in the backyard, and he likes to walk around and pick up rocks in his mouth and carry them around. Then when I try to take them away from him, he swallows them because he doesn’t want me to have them.
Migs: That’s terrible! But I guess it cuts down on your dogfood bill.
Chris: Yeah, but it doesn’t cut down on my veterinary bill!

Discussion
Chris and Migs have been friends for a long time. Their speech is pretty casual in this example. You can tell by the way that they laugh and joke with each other that they are close. Do you have a dog, or any other pet? They can do some strange things sometimes. Come share your stories at the Ebaby! Message Board. We’d like to hear from you! Until next time,—John
