Hi Friends!
It’s spring, which is one of the best times of the year for people who live in cold weather climates. The weather is slowly getting nicer and the sun is showing its face more often. The sunshine and warm temperatures make it possible to spend more time outside doing fun things like gardening.
Beth recently told Josh about her plans to plant some flowers outside her house. Listen in to their conversation to find out what’s she’s going to do.

Josh:  Well Beth, now that it’s spring time are you planting a garden or anything?

Beth:  I am. Actually, this weekend I went and bought some pansies for my flower box. I don’t have a huge garden. I wish I did, but I have this really cool, um, flower box off my balcony.

Josh:  So you live in an apartment, so you don’t have a ton of space for a garden.

Beth:  No, but it’s so important to have, uh, flowers outside our, our window, because otherwise it would just be so dull without some, you know, color.

Josh:  A little, little bit of color. Yeah. That’s cool. Do you, do you just plant flowers or do you plant any herbs, or, uh, I don’t know, food or other plants?

Beth:  Well, I’ve tried all different types of plants and honestly, I’ve had very bad luck. But, this year I bought some special soil called “coco soil,” and it’s, uh, supposed to be rich in nutrients, so hopefully I’ll have better luck.

Josh:  Well good luck with that.

Beth:  Thank you. I’ll let you know.

Discussion

Gardening is enormously popular in the U.S. People spend hours upon hours in their gardens, planting everything from daffodils to apple trees. Gardening is a good hobby, because it’s something people can do at any age and in almost any location. Even some people who live in high-rise apartment buildings create gardens for themselves inside their apartments.
I live in the country, so I’ve got lots of space to plant flowers and other plants. Unfortunately, I don’t have as much time as I’d like to be working outside. I’m hoping that I’ll get a chance at some point to plant a big vegetable garden. Maybe this summer…
Have a great week!
