One meaning of freak is someone who is really into something. This can be good and it can be bad, like many other things. Someone who is really into cars is a car freak and someone who is really into art is an art freak. I met a freak not too long ago. He was a music freak. Check it out as I tell John about it.

Steph: Ya know how you told me about random guy who showed up at your party? I think I met him last week.
John: You did? Where’d you see him?
Steph: Well, he was. Well, I don’t know if it was him. But it was a random guy. It could’ve been your random guy. I’m not really sure. But, he was walking down the street and he was carrying a case of CDs.
John: Oh. Whoa. When I saw him, he was carrying this case of beer.
Steph: He. It’s random guy. It’s the case of the random guy, with a case.
John: Whoa. So did you talk to him?
Steph: Actually, just briefly. He, uh, gave me a whole bunch of CDs. He gave me his case of CDs.
John: So, why did he give you the CDs? Did he like you?
Steph: He just gave it to me so that I could listen to them. He said that he had made them and that he had listened to them and he was through with them.
John: So, you’re not supposed to return them then. They’re yours to keep.
Steph: Yeah. No. He’s really random. I don’t even know what his name was.
John: What kind of music was it?
Steph: Well, there was country music, R and B and then there was this CD called Bleep Squeak girls with all these, ya know, high-pitched girls singing – Ladytron, Stereolab, Bjork.
John: Sounds like award-winning stuff.
Steph: It was good. It was really good!

Do you have a hobby that takes up a large part of your free time? I play music in a band. I don’t do it all the time. I like it, but it doesn’t take up all of my time. The guitarist in my band, Chris, is a music freak. He writes music like crazy. One time, he decided to write 10 songs a day for 50 days straight. Now that’s a freak! What do you do that’s kind of freaky?
