You’ve waited all week for this. It’s the weekend! Now what are you going to do? You’d better decide quickly. It will be over before you know it.

The weekend is your time to relax and enjoy yourself. But it can also be a stressful time. The weekend is when you have to do all those chores and errands that you didn’t have time for during the week. And don’t forget to spend some quality time with your family!

Hear about Jason and Amy’s weekend plans.

Amy:  What are your plans this weekend, Jason?

Jason:  I am gonna do my taxes.

Amy:  Oh, alright.

Jason:  And I’m actually gonna go to a birthday party, and I’m gonna go to a soccer game.

Amy:  Well, that’s a good variety of weekend activities.

Jason:  Yeah.

Amy:  I hate it when your weekend is just all taken up with chores, you know?

Jason:  Yeah. It’s a drag when the weekend is over and you feel like you haven’t relaxed at all.

Amy:  I know. Really, two days is not long enough for a weekend in my opinion. Every weekend should be three days.

Jason:  Yeah. Those three day weekends are amazing, with the difference it makes.

Amy:  Yeah.

Jason:  I do know someone who would work really long days four days a week, just so he could have three day weekends every week.

Amy:  Uh-huh. Well, I can understand that, ‘cause often Sunday doesn’t even feel like a weekend day, because you’re already thinking about Monday.

Jason:  Yeah, I see my friends do that a lot. They’re really worried, maybe even Saturday night, they’re worried about working on Monday. They’re like, “Oh, I better turn in early, ‘cause I’m gonna have to work soon.”

Amy:  Oh, man.

Jason:  Yeah. It’s kind of over before it starts sometimes, the weekend.

Amy:  At least this weekend, I have a pool party to go to.

Jason:  Yes!

Go Super to Listen Go Super!

Amy asks Jason about his weekend plans. He says he is going to do his taxes, go to a birthday party, and go to a soccer game.

Amy hates it when the weekend involves nothing but chores. Sometimes, when people are busy working during the week, they have to spend the weekend catching up on housework and errands.

Jason loves having three day weekends. With a two day weekend, it can sometimes feel like half the weekend is taken up with worrying about going back to work.

Amy agrees that a three day weekend would be a big improvement on the two day weekend. But at least she has exciting weekend plans. She’s going to a pool party!

What are your weekend plans? What kinds of things do you usually like to do on the weekend? Do you usually have to do a lot of chores on the weekend?

Sigh…

Weekends fly by, especially for those of us who work Saturday and/or Sunday!

Even though I work on weekends, I do remind myself that it is the weekend, and I need to take time for rest and relaxation (R&R).

We all need to have some peaceful time to ourselves. It’s wise to turn off the cell phone and computer once in a while. Disconnecting ourselves from the global network is imperative so our minds can be at complete rest. If we are always anticipating a text or phonecall, how can we truly breathe and just….be?

Because we have “taken up with”...

Here are four other phrasals using the verb “take.” There are many!

1. Take after – to resemble, to have traits/looks/mannerisms similar to another person (usually a relative)

Many people think I resemble my dad because I have blue eyes, but I think I take after my mother. We have the same complexion and nose.

2. Take (something) apart – To break something into pieces ON PURPOSE.

My little brother loves to learn about electronics. He takes radios and telephones apart all of the time, but thankfully, he puts them back together when he’s done.

3. Take someone out – to bring someone with you, most likely paying for that person

I love it when my dad takes me out to dinner because I get to order the most expensive thing on the menu.

My friends want me to go to the mall tonight, but my boyfriend is taking me out somewhere. We’ll probably go to the movies.

4. Take down – Make a written note or record of something

My mother took down a recipe while watching the cooking channel on TV.

Take down my phone number and call me later!

I took down a lot of notes in science class today.

* You can also use “jot down” in the place of “take down,” as long as it’s a quick note such as a phone number.*

My mother jotted down a recipe while watching the cooking channel on TV.

Jot down my number and call me later!

I love weekends!  I do agree that weekend should be much longer, however, it’s a little bit imposssible in China right now. I pefer staying at home to going out to have fun. I have little time with my family , so weeks would be the best time for me to relax with them.On weekends , my family often do some chores or  make dinner  togther. For me it’s so nice.

weekend !!

I’ve forgotten this word since I joined the high school. In the past, I was going on short trips with my family or maybe visiting some relatives, friends or something kinda that. But now I just have 7 days in my week similar. I can find no difference in my life. Today I’m studying like what I’ll do tomorrow, like what will happen after tomorrow and so on. Even when I leave home and go out, it is for studying or bringing some books to study in.

Interesting weekend among books and thinking about exams :)

I live  in the middle of a bustling  city, no National Parks , Wilderness , only frenzy  people moving around  subject to the tyranny  of their  watches.   Weekends ,welcome,  I am not a couch potato , its  Saturday, let´s hit the road, time to unwind and charge batteries,  hanging out with friends , relax at a sidewalk cafe  ,  window shopping and  a good smile because Monday is waiting for us and it never fails to show up.  Happy weekend ,my friends , love you.Smile
