Do you like Superman or Spider-Man? Do you think Thor is cool? Or maybe, Wolverine is your favorite? All of these characters were made by a company named Marvel. In the beginning, Marvel wrote comic books about superheroes. These superheroes live in a world that looks like our world, but this world is full of fantastical things. For example, Superman can fly. Spider-man can climb walls like a spider. Thor and Wolverine are very strong.
Marvel also makes movies. In 2008, Marvel released their first movie. Now, they have new movies coming out every year! Their movies are tied into the comic book world. Captain America started as a comic book in 1941. Captain America tells the story of a soldier who became a superhero. He is super-fast and super-strong. He has a group of friends called The Avengers. Captain America and his friends are in the new movie Captain America: Civil War.
Learn what Gary and Andy think about Marvel comics and movies in this English lesson.

Gary: I am so excited. Very soon, Captain America: Civil War is going to be released in the movie theaters.
Andy_H: Oh my gosh, I don’t even know what to think. I had so much fun watching Captain America: Winter Soldier. They are just phenomenal.
Gary: This year Marvel has so many movies coming out, and next year, and the year after. They have so many big ideas tied into the movie world, all coming from their comic books.
Andy_H: And, you know, I love the comic books. I’ve read like two or three in my life.
Gary: Okay.
Andy_H: But I love what they do with these movies! I mean, I feel like they’re actually bringing this fantastical comic book world into the world you and me live in.
Gary: It’s the good old days for me. It feels so inspiring. With all of these stories interwoven between TV, movies, and things on YouTube and Netflix, all connecting together, it just makes me feel like a kid again.
Andy_H: And I have heard people say, “Oh, they’re just milking it for all it’s worth.” Sure, fine, but let me tell you, I cannot wait to get me some more Marvel.
Gary: Sign me up!

Some people say that Marvel wants to make lots of money with their movies. New Marvel movies are coming out all the time, and each new movie usually has the same superheroes. The superheroes are also in comic books and on TV. Gary and Andy agree that Marvel is milking it for all it’s worth, but they don’t care. They just want more movies!
What kind of movies do you like? Will you see the new Captain America movie?
