Steph: So, you need to send a package?
Sara: Yeah. I need to send a package and I haven’t done a lot of it. So, if you could kind of explain how to do it, that would be great!
Steph: OK. Well, the first thing you wanna do is make sure that you don’t go to the Post Office at lunch time because the line will be really, really long.
Sara: Oh. Because everybody has lunch breaks, so they go the Post Office?
Steph: Right.
Sara: OK.
Steph: Then, if it’s, if you need it to get there fast, you can send it, I think, priority.
Sara: OK.
Steph: But if you don’t need it to go so fast, you can send it what’s called first class.
Sara: Does it cost more money to send it priority?
Steph: A little bit. But if you need it to get there fast, it’s worth it.
Sara: OK. How do you get the postage? Do you ask them for it?
Steph: Well, you take your package and make sure it’s already all taped up. And you can write the person’s address right on the box. And then you stand in line. And then the person at the counter will tell you what to do and how much it costs.
Sara: Oh. OK. And then they just mail it for you?
Steph: They just take it from you and then that’s it.
Sara: Wow. That sounds pretty easy.
Steph: It’s pretty easy. But you have to make sure and tape up the box before you go.
Sara: So everything doesn’t fall out?
Steph: Right.
Sara: Are they nice?
Steph: Yeah.
Sara: Yeah?
Steph: They are.
Sara: Not so bad?
Steph: They’re very nice.
Sara: OK. Well, thanks! I’m gonna go try.

When I was in college, I studied abroad in France. After just a few months there, I had somehow acquired a lot of crap. Crap which was very important to me at that time. There was enough crap to put into a box to send home. The problem was, I was totally scared to go to the Post Office. I was afraid that they wouldn’t understand what I needed. In the end, I went to the Post Office. I got my French crap in the mail a couple of weeks later and happily showed it to my friends. Look at all the cool French crap I got, I said. They didn’t care. I threw the crap away.
