Are there some places where you live where you can go and meet single people? There are here in Portland, that’s for sure! We have a lot of places where people go in groups or alone and hook up with other people who like to do what they do. Usually, they are bars, where people drink and play games like pool or darts. Sara is talking to John right now about one of them.

John

Sara:  So, John, have you ever been to Ringlers Bar?

John:  Yeah. That’s where all the schoolers hang out.

Sara:  Don’t you think it’s a total meat market?

John:  Yeah. But, it, ya know, it’s supposed to be like that.

Sara:  Why’s it supposed to be like that?

John:  I dunno. I mean, at those places you just kind of have to expect to walk in and all the guys are checking out the girls and all the girls are checking out the guys.

Sara:  Yeah. I guess that’s kinda true.

John:  So, if you don’t like it, ya just, you shouldn’t go.

Sara:  Yeah. That’s true. But, do you ever like a meat market?

John:  Never. I would never go to a meat market.

Sara:  Why not?

John:  Because I prefer more of a quiet, romantic setting, where I can really get to know somebody.

Sara:  Yeah. But what if you just met her and you’re trying to ask her on a first date.

John:  Well, I would rather meet people in the grocery store.

Sara:  Why would you rather meet people in the grocery store?

John:  Just because. You can really judge someone’s character by what kind of food they’re, they’re buying. So, I can walk around and see what’s in their cart. And see, kinda, if they’re nice or, or not.

Discussion

So John is the kind of guy to go to the meat counter at the grocery store to meet ladies. I think that’s pretty cool! I mean, at least if you meet someone in the grocery store, there’s a pretty good chance that they will know how to cook. That’s pretty good ‘cause you really can’t tell in a bar. Being single is so hard these days! What do you think?
