Nedra: Beth, you went to see a movie for your birthday. Which movie did you go see?
Beth: I went to see _Blue Crush_It’s a film about surfing and it takes place in Hawaii.
Nedra: Weren’t you saying that your sister’s pretty excited about that movie?
Beth: Yeah, she’s was really getting me pumped up
Nedra: Yeah I imagine there’s a lot of girl power and those kind of themes going on.
Beth: Oh, for sure there were a lot of cool lines like when the girls would get excited to go out surfing, they’d say, “It’s going off out there!”
Nedra: That’s awesome. Um, so it will probably be more appealing to younger girls out there, to get them excited about surfing and, ya know, doing what all the boys can do, right?
Beth: Oh, for sure. It’s a teen flick. It’s all about girls can do that better. It’s fun, overall, it’s something I’d recommend renting on video.
Nedra: Ok, that sounds great!
Beth: You should check it out.

Discussion
Surfing is usually considered a very male-oriented sport. I’m impressed that Blue Crush profiles a strong woman excelling at surfing. I wonder if we will see more movies like this in the future? For example, a movie about women golfing, fishing, or hunting?
What kind of sports do you like? What’s your favorite sports movie?
See you at the movies!
Nedra
