Considered by millions throughout the world to be the greatest adventure ever told, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings: trilogy portrays the epic struggle for possession of the infamous Ring. If returned to its creator, the Dark Lord Sauron, the Ring will give him the power to enslave the world.
The Return of the King is the third and final installment of the trilogy. In the film, Sauron’s forces are attacking the capital of Gondor, in their efforts to eliminate the race of men. Meanwhile, the hobbits Frodo and Sam continue to approach Mount Doom to destroy the ring.

Miguel:  Hey Zach, have you seen Return of the King yet?

Zach:  Yeah. I finally saw that with my little brother, uh, two weeks ago.

Miguel:  So, what’d you think about it?

Zach:  I thought it was amazing. I thought it was a really good movie and capped off that series really well.

Miguel:  What did you think about it in comparison to the other two?

Zach:  Well, I thought that it, it was good that it finally kinda wrapped up some of the plot lines. Uh, the second one kinda seemed like it was right in the middle of something. And the first one was, was awesome, but I thought it was great to see everything wrapped up.

Miguel:  Had you read the books before you saw the movies?

Zach:  No. I still need to get around to that.

Miguel:  Yeah. They’re long books. I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to it now that I’ve seen ‘em on film.

Zach:  Yeah, I think I made it through The Hobbit, and that’s about, that’s about where I stopped.

Discussion

Return of the King is considered by many people to be the best of the Lord of the Rings movies. It recently won 11 Oscar[/def] Awards, which is validation for all of the hard work people put into making creating the beautiful and complex films. Peter Jackson, the director, won a well-deserved Best Director Oscar. He did an amazing job of coordinating the thousands of people who worked on the movies during the 7 years they were in production.
If you haven’t seen the Lord of the Rings movies yet, you should go out and get them on DVD as soon as you can!
See you at the movies!
Zach
