New love can make you do strange things. When new lovers first fall for each other, they find themselves staying up all night together, traveling to be with one another and forgetting commitments. Sometimes they learn a language to be together.

But certainly online love makes people do the strangest things of all. They type back and forth for hours on end and exchange photos by the dozen. If you fall in love with someone online, next thing you know you might be watching your computer while trying to fry some whole lemons in your kitchen.

Marni

Beren: What are you doing?

Marni: Um, uh, well…

Beren: You’re cooking and looking at…

Marni: I’m trying to cook and…the…OK. So I’ve been…I know, I know, it’s my dirty little secret. I’ve been having this online relationship, which is kind of a new thing for me…

Beren: Who is that?

Marni: His name’s John. I just think he’s really awesome. He’s this really great guy and we seem to have a lot in common, so I’m trying to cook because I heard he really likes Middle Eastern food, or that’s what he was saying. I just…I don’t know what I’m doing…

Beren: But you have your computer by the stove, which doesn’t make sense. Is he watching you right now? Is there a camera?

Marni: No…I mean, I just, in case he sends me a message. I just don’t want to miss it.

Beren: In the time it takes you to cook these lemons. Whole lemons.

Marni: I don’t really know how to cook. But I don’t want him to know that because he really likes Middle Eastern food and I was thinking, “OK, well if he thinks I can cook, then you know, that’s a plus, right? Everybody likes a gal who can cook, so…”

Beren: Sure.

Marni: Yeah, so I’m trying to figure it all out, but it I want it to be close by just in case.

Beren: OK. Cool.

Marni: Yeah.

Beren: Best of luck to ya.

Marni: Thanks. I need it.

Discussion

Beren walks into Marni’s kitchen and discovers a very strange scene. Marni’s computer is sitting on the counter so she can look at while she cooks. While she cooks lemons. Whole lemons.

So Marni explains that she has a new online boyfriend. His name is John. Maybe you’ve seen him around the Ebaby!...

Anyway, John likes Middle Eastern cooking, so Marni is trying to learn how to cook. She’s not doing a very good job of it, probably because she’s distracted by her new love.

Beren slowly backs away from Marni as though she’s insane.

As for me… I had a lot of online romances. Mostly with the foreigners because I just wanted to improve my English via chatting originally. I even met with one of them abroad and I surely met with the Moscow ones. But it never worked. Mostly I didn’t like them like that, once he didn’t like me and one more time he appeared to be a ladies’ man. Still there is a man that I’d like to meet in real life just to know if there is really something special in him that we’ve been quarrelling and making up again for more than 3 years already)) I think if we met it would come to an end at last. But it’s more likely we won’t and just move on some time.
