In English, we say that people have a calling. Your calling is whatever seems to be the best thing for you to do with your life. Some people are called to be doctors and help the sick. Others find that their calling is business and they’re good at making money.
Some believe they are called by God to spread a divine message. These people usually work with a church, but sometimes they simply go out in public to help promote their beliefs.
Watch as Jason talks to a street preacher about what it’s like to stand on a street corner and talk about God with anyone who will listen.
3. Watch - Watch the video without reading the dialog.
Dialog

Jason: Welcome to English, baby!. I’m Jason and I’m here with a street preacher.
Richard: Richard.
Jason: Richard. And you’re out here giving out information on the street. What is the information you’re giving out about?
Richard: Well, basically we want to tell people that it’s more than church, it’s more than religion, it’s a relationship with God through the Son of God Jesus Christ.
Jason: Are you guys associated with a church yourselves?
Richard: No. We’re just street ministers. We minister wherever the Spirit of God leads us. We go and awesome things are done to the Glory of God.
Jason: And I saw that you’ve made some friends out here today. Some people have been receptive. Do you ever meet people who are really upset about what you’re doing?
Richard: Occasionally we do. We get people that will cuss at us, people that will scream and yell at us, spit, but I’ve never been hit by it.
Jason: Oh wow.
Richard: Praise God. Dodged it.
Jason: And what made you decide to take your message to the streets instead of, you know, to a pulpit?
Richard: Right. Well, that’s kind of a long subject, but the bottom line is we’re both called….We believe we’re called of God. He made it true to our hearts that we are to do this and we do it joyfully because we know that we were created to do this.
Jason: Wow.
Richard: Yeah.
Jason: And so do you have any major success stories? Like, people who come back and say, “You really changed my life.”
Richard: Yes. Occasionally we find people coming to Christ, rededications, people rededicating their lives to Christ. Lots of good things are done for the Glory of God and it’s awesome. It’s awesome to see it.
Jason: Alright. Can I get you to give me a high five and say, “English, baby!”

Discussion
Richard and his friend believe it’s their calling to help people learn about Jesus. They don’t work for a church, they simply stand on the street and encourage people have a relationship with God.
Sometimes people welcome their message and pray with them. Other times they become annoyed or angry and throw things or spit. But Richard and his friend believe they have to do this.
What’s your calling? Do people stand outside and promote their spiritual beliefs where you live? Do you like to see them or do they bother you?
