Migs: What’s up dude? Where did you go?
John: I went out to the airport. The president came to town today.
Migs: Oh, so you watched him fly in, or what?
John: Yeah, I went out there to see Air Force One land. It’s pretty cool.
Migs: It’s just a big plane, right? Or are there several planes?
John: Oh, there was only one plane, and it is a big 747, but… It’s just kind of cool to see the plane that the president flies in!
Migs: So you didn’t see the President though, did you?
John: Well, after that we drove around to the other side of the airport, and the traffic was stopped because he was going to come driving by. We got out of the car, walked over this little island in the road, and sat there, and all of the sudden his limo came by!
Migs: Oh wow… so you did see him!
John: Well… All the glass is tinted on the window, so… We think we saw him, but we weren’t sure.
Migs: (laughs) He didn’t roll down his window to say hello or anything?
John: We were waiting for that, but it never happened!

It sounds like John and Anne had a wonderful adventure. Not only did they see Air Force One, they also saw the President’s limosine driving past!
Pay attention to how John and Miguel speak to each other. They are very good friends, so they have a very casual way of speaking. Miguel calls John, “dude,” which is a term you would only use with a close friend, and is usually only used when referring to a man.
Can you also hear in John and Miguel’s voices how they are joking with each other at the end of the conversation. Miguel knows that the President would not roll down his window to say hello to John, but he asks John if this happened, because it is funny to think that it might. This kind of humor is called sarcasm.
I hope these lessons help you friends! If you have any questions please come to our message boards and ask away! We are all looking forward to hearing from you!
Have a wonderful week!
